Scientific identity and scope

Aleph. Langues, Médias et Sociétés is an international peer-reviewed scholarly journal published in immediate open access. It is devoted to original research in language sciences, textual and discourse studies, literary, cultural and media studies, and information and communication sciences.

The journal welcomes theoretical, methodological, empirical and epistemological work on language practices, discourse, texts, media, cultures, knowledge circulation, documentary practices, transformations of written forms, and the social, symbolic and institutional dimensions of communication.

Scholarly standards

Aleph primarily publishes original research articles based on a clearly stated research problem, a situated state of the art, an identifiable theoretical framework, a rigorous methodology, a defined corpus or fieldwork, reasoned analysis and a discussion of findings. Descriptive, merely compilatory, teaching-oriented or insufficiently problematised texts do not fall within the journal’s editorial scope.

Depending on its editorial programme, Aleph may also publish thematic issues, Varia articles, research notes, scholarly interviews, critical book reviews, annotated bibliographies and methodological contributions, provided that they meet the journal’s academic standards.

Review, openness and visibility

Submitted manuscripts undergo preliminary editorial screening and, when deemed admissible, double-blind peer review by at least two external and independent reviewers. Editorial decisions are based exclusively on the scientific, methodological, ethical and formal quality of the manuscript.

The journal pays particular attention to multilingual metadata, author identification, consistent affiliations, documentary stability of its archives and the international discoverability of published content.

Open access and rights

Aleph applies a policy of immediate open access: articles are freely accessible as soon as they are made available online, without embargo, subscription or prior registration requirement. Authors retain full copyright, and articles are disseminated under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence — CC BY 4.0.

Consultation, downloading, sharing, citation and reuse of articles are permitted under the terms of the licence, provided that proper attribution is given to the authors, the article title, the journal, the year of publication, the URL or DOI, and the licence.
