Dans une perspective historique et sociologique, cette étude consiste à insérer le livre dans une histoire intellectuelle et culturelle, une histoire des mentalités, en répondant à cette question : « Dans quelle mesure les intellectuels participent-ils à la dynamique de la production éditoriale, non en tant qu’auteurs, mais comme agents influents sur le processus de production de sens. Le livre étant un enjeu de pouvoir, les intellectuels fidèles à leur engagement se mobilisent-ils dans les sphères de sa production ? » إذا كان الكتاب و ميدان النشر قد استقطب الكثير من الباحثين في المجالات المختلفة و الذين قدموا دراسات عديدة حولها ؛ القليل منهم اهتم بدراسة دور المثقف في ديناميكية نشر الكتاب و مكانة هؤلاء في دور النشر ليس فقط من حيث مكانتهم كمؤلفين و لكن كقطب مستشار موجه و مشارك في عملية توجيه و تأطير النشر. فبالتالي هذه الدراسة تحاول اقتحام هذا الميدان حيث تعكف على استظهار و توضيح مكانة المثقف في ديناميكية نشر الكتاب بالجزائر و ذلك ابتداء من أحداث أكتوبر 1988 لغاية سنة 2016 .
