Collective unconscious, also referred to as objective psyche is the idea that there are certain behaviors and characteristics among human beings that are inherited, and not necessarily acquired based on personal experiences. The discussion revolves around how some of the behaviors among the African Americans and their notions regarding themselves are natural rather than based on the history of discrimination. Toni Morrison’s God Help the Child reveals how African Americans are affected by inherent trauma.
