Operating from the belief that the root of gender inequality is economic, Gilman believes that once women were financially self-sufficient, the marital relationship would be based on respect, love and true partnership. يناقش هذا المقال أهمية الاستقلال المادي في تحرير المرأة داخل وخارج مؤسسة الزواج، في قصص قصيرة مختارة من أعمال الكاتبة ”.شارلوت بيركنز غيلمان“. انطلاقًا من الاعتقاد بأن أصل عدم المساواة بين الجنسين مصدره مادي، ترى غيلمان أنه بمجرد حصول المرأة على الاكتفاء الذاتي من الناحية المادية، ستستند العلاقة الزوجية إلى الاحترام والحب والشراكة الحقيقية. Cet article met en exergue l’importance de l’émancipation des femmes, intra ou extra-mariage, selon certains récits de Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
