This article examines spatial transgressivity in Juan Goytisolo’s La cuarentena through Bertrand Westphal’s concept, understood as a sustained regime of spatial and symbolic boundary mobility rather than the isolated crossing of a fixed limit. Using a qualitative, text-centred reading informed by geocriticism, the study investigates five interacting boundary regimes in the novel: life and death, East and West, the sacred and the market, reality and imagination, and language and identity. The findings show that the barzakh operates as a liminal matrix from which the narrative juxtaposes heterogeneous temporalities, traditions, and discursive registers. This spatial organization has formal counterparts in the mobility of narrative voice, heterolingual practice, and the representation of an unfixed identity. The analysis also reassesses, with historiographical caution, the dialogue among Islamic eschatology, Dante, and mystical traditions, without turning debated hypotheses into established lines of influence. It concludes that transgressivity provides a coherent framework for integrating formal, cultural, and identitarian phenomena that earlier criticism generally addressed thematically or in isolation.

This article examines the mythic dynamics at work in The Matrix Resurrections (Lana Wachowski, 2021). It argues that the film does not merely accumulate cultural, philosophical, and religious references, but rather organizes them into a branching network of meanings. Drawing on geocriticism and, more specifically, on Bertrand Westphal’s notion of transgressivity, the study proposes the expression “mythic transgressivity” to describe the joint crossing of spatial, narrative, and symbolic boundaries. From this perspective, thresholds, mirrors, passages, cities, ships, and parallel worlds reactivate both ancient and modern myths, from Plato and Alice to messianic figures, artificial intelligence, and the metaverse. Neo/Thomas Anderson’s initiatory journey thus appears as the organizing principle of a branching narrative in which places, temporalities, cultural figures, and regimes of reality intersect.

This paper offers a cross-reading of the Paris Metro as a narrative and cartographic space, by bringing together Italo Calvino’s evocations of Paris and the poetics of the underground in Rachid Boudjedra’s Topographie idéale pour une agression caractérisée. Drawing on geocritical tools (map, place, network, labyrinth) and an analysis of urban trajectories, the study shows how the metropolitan network becomes both a marker of identity and a matrix for a topography of alienation. It finally examines the political stakes of literary cartography, poised between ordering the real and exposing its lines of fracture.

Avatar 2 : The Way of Water This article examines James Cameron’s science fiction film Avatar 2: The Way of Water (2022) from a geocritical perspective. We will analyze the theme of (neo) imperialism, focusing on a fictitious conflict between the Na’vi, indigenous people of the planet Pandora, and Humans. This analysis will also allow us to identify the political and ecological issues that punctuate the futuristic narrative, which nevertheless has its roots in today’s world.
